Overview

Hartz Chicken Buffet in Port Arthur, Texas, stands out in the fast food scene for its robust offering of classic Southern comfort fare, anchored by their fried chicken and an inviting salad bar. Located conveniently on Twin City Highway, this eatery caters to both locals and families seeking generous portions of homestyle dishes in a casual setting.

The core attraction here is undeniably the fried chicken—crispy, juicy, and served in sizeable pieces that promise satisfying bites. Beyond the traditional fried options, Hartz also offers baked chicken, tenders, and a variety of other proteins like fried fish, gizzards, and livers, appealing to a broad audience with diverse tastes. Their notable sides include macaroni and cheese with a subtle sweetness, savory dirty rice, and buttery soft rolls that have gained a loyal following among patrons.

Family combos provide ample food for gatherings or bigger appetites, with thoughtfully included sides and rolls that complement the main dish well. The availability of sauces such as brown gravy, honey mustard, and tartar sauce add an enjoyable layer of flavor customization. Whether stopping by the buffet or opting for drive-thru convenience, customers often mention the warmth and professionalism of the staff alongside the consistently fresh and hot meals.

The buffet experience is especially praised for keeping dishes replenished and hot, making it a great option for those looking to sample a variety of menu items in one sitting. Patrons appreciate the variety and quantity of food they can enjoy, though some note the buffet’s price point may lean higher compared to other fast food choices. Still, the quality and portion sizes deliver strong value.

In terms of atmosphere, Hartz Chicken Buffet provides a quiet, welcoming environment that supports a comfortable dining experience. The team’s friendly demeanor and the restaurant’s upkeep contribute to this positive impression, making it a reliable spot for families, groups, or anyone craving hearty, Southern-style fried chicken and sides.

With no nearby competitors offering the same range of flavors—especially since local options like Popeyes or Church’s Chicken are absent—Hartz Chicken Buffet fills a valuable niche in Port Arthur’s culinary landscape. Their combination of classic comfort food, attentive service, and convenient location makes it a worthwhile stop for a quick meal or a casual gathering.

Always clean. Fast. Friendly. The only thing that I would appreciate is to have enough napkins and ketchup. 4 packets of ketchup for 16 pieces of chicken and fried gizzards and livers along with 4 napkins is crazy stingy.

I went first for the buffet but decided to go through the drive thru instead. I realized I could get a lot more food to take home for the price of the buffet. The buffet is a little pricey and might be the better choice if I was starving. Overall I was very happy. My food was great and the chicken was huge. I probably would have spent a little more for the amount of food elsewhere.

Quiet place with decent fried chicken. The rolls are amazing and peach cobbler isn’t too bad. They also serve fried fish and the tartar sauce is pretty good. Staff is always friendly. Haven’t tried the new spicy chicken yet, but I’m hoping it’s hot since no Popeyes or Churches chicken locally anymore. Overall, great place to eat.

Their Buffet is really really good! They keep fresh and hot items constantly flowing! The dirty rice there is some of the best I’ve had in a good hot minute lol. I highly recommend the spicy wings, the okra and tomatoes , the macaroni and cheese has a groovy sweetness to it that hits the mark! And they have more meats other than fried chicken pieces but they offer baked chicken, tenders , gizzards and livers to enjoy along with meatballs in gravy, fried fish, GO GET YOU SOME!!!

Our family went to this location for a sit down meal. Five people for the buffet was $81. The food was hot and fairly decent. They don't put fries on the buffet and don't offer BBQ sauce for the chicken tenders on the buffet. The only sauces offered is hot sauce and ketchup. Not ideal if you have kids. They also have a sign that says to eat clear your plate before you get a new one. I felt like workers were watching before you got a new plate. So if you didn't like the beans as I didn't, you would toss it away. The chicken fingers are also not comparable to the Beaumont location. The ends are very crispy and super small. I prefer that location over the buffet here.

This place has good chicken, is affordable, and the staff were extremely friendly this evening. I don’t do buffets. Sure it’s fast food. But for the price, it’s really good.
